What excites me is helping organisations achieve their business and strategic goals.
Align business and IT.
Thus the organisation will increase return on investment in IT and achieve lower cost of ownership. Also by doing so, the organisation will achieve better delivery of their product and service to their customer's and increase their profit margins.
A spin off to that too is that the employees will be happier working for a more streamlined organisation and the benefit of a higher quality delivery of their product or service.
1. Technical standardisation. What I mean by technical standardisation is using different IT platforms with regards to hardware, software and application development tools. This then causes problems with integration with other systems and also causes redundant data that is all over the show and is hard to integrate with. This is why Service Orientated
Architecture has become such a big name to try and bridge that gap.
2. Another problem mainly with larger organisations is the
silo effect, where each IT department have their own
standards and models. Also there is a loss of human communication.
